LaForce Baker is making a powerful impact on food deserts throughout the city with his start-up, Moon Meals. His mission is affordable, accessible healthy options that taste good and he’s adamant about that last part. His latest endeavor? Getting placement in all 187 Jewel-Osco locations and he’s setting his sights for 1,000 stores by the end of the year.
It’s exciting when you have local business owners that come up with creative solutions to community issues and we’re happy to share LaForce’s story. “Being in an entrepreneurial industry, we are always inspired by stories such as this,” notes Christian Volpe, SCG marketing director. “As I was reading this story and learning of LaForce Baker’s success, I realized that I’ve actually had his food recently while looking for a quick bite at Jewel. I’m a vegetarian, so it was refreshing to come across Moon Meals and sincerely, the wrap I had was really good! It’s truly impressive what he’s already accomplished at the age of 29. To listen to him speak (in the video interview) about his background and business perspective, he is wise beyond his years. It’s a bonus to learn his company is based in Hyde Park where much of our business is conducted. I’ll certainly stay tuned to his story and wishing him much more success.”
