30 lucky middle school teachers will chew over the history of ancient foods and distill it into course material thanks to a grant from United Health Foundation and Whole Kids’ Foundation, a partner organization of Whole Foods.
The University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute received the $25,000 grant during the grand opening for Whole Food’s City Hyde Park location on June 22.
“The highly anticipated Whole Foods is a significant milestone in the overall effort in bringing in commercial anchors to the community,” said Hasani Steele, CEO of the Steele Consulting Group.
The Institute will hold a five-day training session for 30 5-8 grade Chicago-area teachers. Afterwards, the teacher will incorporate the histories of food and nutrition into their curriculums during the 2017 school year.
