WASHINGTON PARK — U. of C. will build a new art center across the street from the potential site for Barack Obama’s presidential library in Washington Park.
The Green Line Arts Center will expand arts programming in the neighborhood with additional space for music, theater, film and dance. Located at 317 E. Garfield Blvd., the center will join the University’s Art Block, which includes the Arts Incubator, Place Lab, and BING Art Books.
“To transform a neighborhood, we have to help people believe that beautiful things can happen there. Arts and culture are some of the ways we can do that,” says artist and U. of C. professor Theaster Gates, who has led the University’s projects on the Art Block.
