U. of C.’s Woodlawn charter school  will seat 100 more students by the 2017 school year at its new location between 63rd Street and University Avenue.

After finalizing the land purchase in February, U. of C. revealed new plans  for the expanded 29,000 square-foot school, which will enroll 750 students. The additional space will be used for new facilities including:

  • A college counseling center
  • Football field and track
  • Gym and locker room
  • Larger cafeteria
  • Science and technology labs
  • More space for arts programs

The Woodlawn Charter is one of four U. of C. Charter School campuses, and prepares students grade 6 to 12 for college through a rigorous curriculum grounded in research and design. The school’s program has fostered academic excellence with all students in the 2012 and 2013 graduating classes getting accepted to college.
