Hasani Steele Sets Record in Realtor Rankings

A nationwide real estate survey named Hasani Steele among “America’s Best”, the one percent of realtors nationwide who led in home sales or transactions last year. The real estate services company set a personal best in REALtrend’s fourth annual ranking. REALtrends ranked the CEO of Steele Consulting Group 39th in the state of Illinois. Logan Square Congress Theater’s Makeover

One investor is looking to restore Congress Theater to its grandeur amid a hot real estate market in Logan Square. Michael Moyer’s past projects include the Loop’s Cadillac Palace Theater. Now, he has commissioned Woodhouse Tinucci Architects to renovate Logan Square’s historic movie palace, which seated 2,500 moviegoers in its heyday. Design plans for the Congress Theater makeover include a vertical marquee as well as residences on-site and across Rockwell Street from the theater. The vacant lot will be the site of a 10 story building with 120 residences. Ald. Joe Moreno's office has requested a community review of the design. Open Produce Owner’s Hyde Park Wine Shop Pitch

Hyde Park residents raised a toast to a local business owner’s proposal to open a wine shop during a community meeting. Open Produce owner Steven Lucy told his neighbors on July 14 that a niche exists for his proposed wine and craft beer store on 1448 E. 57th St.  He expects to see interest from diners frequenting nearby B.Y.O.B. restaurants. Business owners at the meeting supported the idea for improving dining experiences in a neighborhood with limited access to liquor licenses. Logan Square Joins Nation’s Coolest Neighborhoods

Tourists as far as Berlin are beating a path to the ‘Midwest Headquarters of Hip’, and it’s not downtown Chicago. Logan Square is one of the nation’s coolest neighborhoods according to a survey by commercial real estate services company Cushman & Wakefield. Using factors like walkability and restaurant availability, it named Logan Square one of North America’s 15 ‘hottest urban retail markets’. Hyde Park’s New Whole Foods Announces Grant

30 lucky middle school teachers will chew over the history of ancient foods and distill it into course material thanks to a grant from United Health Foundation and Whole Kids' Foundation, a partner organization of Whole Foods. Obama Presidential Library Architect Named

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama chose architects they had ‘great chemistry’ with to lead their library's design, according to the Obama Foundation. The foundation selected Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects of New York City out of seven candidates released in December. Foundation chairman Martin Nesbitt said the architect behind the U. of C.’s Logan Center for the Arts (pictured above) impressed the presidential couple. The foundation also named Interactive Design Architects of Chicago as partner in design. The two-year design process begins once the foundation chooses either Jackson or Washington parks as the library’s future home. 25 New Woodlawn Homes Slated Near U. of C.

Woodlawn will be the site of 25 new homes in another sign of the benefits of living near U. of C. Just south of U. of C.’s Law School, construction will begin on a mixture of single families, townhomes and condominium on the 6100 and 6200 blocks of Greenwood. Architectural firm Studio Dwell – known for its North Side projects – will bring a contemporary look to the development. KMW Communities bought the land parcels from the city of Chicago at $461,500 and is expected to finalize the purchase in July.  The homes will range from $300,000 for the condos to $600,000 for the larger 4-bedroom houses.
